Kim Weiss-Lewit
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant
I am so excited to be part of this course and part of your preparation for parenting! I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, ready to support you in your breastfeeding/human milk feeding goals. I began my dedication to serving nursing families over a decade ago as a La Leche League leader and as a volunteer with pregnant and parenting people at New York prisons and jail. In addition to my private lactation practice, I have worked as a hospital-based Lactation Specialist and am an experienced and certified doula, certified doula trainer, trained midwife assistant and prenatal yoga teacher.
I hold an MA in Applied Psychology/Drama Therapy from New York University and have completed advanced training in Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders and Perinatal Loss & Grief from Seleni Institute and with Postpartum Support International. I strongly believe in the synergistic relationship between babies and their parents and that your emotional and physical well-being is at the center of a healthy postpartum experience.
Dana Hilsenrath
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant
I was initially drawn to lactation work after the birth of my twin boys and my own challenges with breastfeeding. I became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in order to provide families with the evidence-based, judgement-free support they need to realize their own feeding goals. My philosophy is that all families deserve to make an informed decision as to what their ideal feeding journey entails. This will differ from person to person, baby to baby, and family to family. I draw upon my experience providing families with in-home and virtual feeding support through my private practice, Westchester Lactation, as well as my experience working in the busy Lactation Department at NYU Langone Medical Center.
Jennifer Hampton
Perinatal Mental Health Specialist
Jennifer lives with her husband and 6-year-old son in Napa, California, and runs her own private psychotherapy practice in Napa and Sonoma. She studied psychology and clinical social work at the University of Texas (UT) at Austin. Her therapy training began in public school special education. She has worked in hospitals, both pediatric and adult, often assessing and responding to a variety of issues including infertility, pregnancy loss, postpartum depression and anxiety and a variety of conditions affecting parents and young children. During this time, she served as an adjunct professor for the UT Graduate School of Social Work. After ten years in the field, Jennifer shifted to the outpatient setting and helped build an integrated behavioral health program for a medical practice serving 30,000 low-income families. She left that role to live abroad for four years, managing an outreach program for the US Air Force focused on new parents and families, which included teaching a variety of parenting classes and volunteering for a nonprofit.
In 2014, Jennifer relocated to Napa, California, pregnant again after experiencing pregnancy loss. Through her personal struggles with postpartum anxiety, she became aware of a need for expanded maternal mental health support in her community. She sought out additional training through Postpartum Support International, and in 2018, she opened Moxie Motherhood, a private practice focusing on women's reproductive mental health, including infertility, pregnancy and postpartum care, and co-founded a pregnancy and postpartum peer support program.
Taylor Ulrey
Perinatal Mental Health Specialist
I have been supporting families in one way or another since I was trusted to rock a baby on my own in a rocking chair. I have been fascinated by motherhood since a young girl, and my life’s work has been on studying the transition to parenthood. This blossomed into receiving my Masters Degree from Seattle Pacific University in Marriage and Family Therapy. While at SPU, I also completed a postgraduate training program in Medical Family Therapy. For my externship, I was placed in an OB clinic that had reproductive psychiatry, lactation, pelvic floor physical therapy, social work, yoga, and nutrition therapy for new parents. It was here that I realized that although we often tell parents they need to build their village of other parents, us providers need to build our village as well so that we can provide the best care possible for new parents.
I am a champion of Medicaid expansion in order to increase access for all parents in all states to the care they need in the perinatal period. I live into this by volunteering as the Vice President of the Kansas chapter of Postpartum Support International. I also have a private practice rooted in social and birth justice serving clients in Washington, Missouri, and Kansas.
In my free time, I foster rescued English Bulldogs and love on their squishy faces.
Dr. Melissa Thompson
Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist
Hi! I’m Dr. Melissa Thompson, PT, DPT, MTC. I’m a board-certified Doctor of Physical Therapy with a specialty certification in Manual Therapy, which is a tool for hands on treatment. I am an advocate for holistic health, which means I believe in finding the root cause of your musculoskeletal condition from head to toe in one-on-one, hands on, thorough assessments. I have a small practice in Houma, LA, where I see patients daily for 60-75 minutes of individualized care.
A few years ago, I noticed a gap in my practice for the women who were coming to me for back pain issues, among many other things, when many of them also complained about pelvic floor issues like leaking urine, that were likely related to their conditions. After receiving further specialist training for the pelvic floor, I have been able to combine my specialties to better address bladder, bowel, and sexual health needs throughout pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and the lifespan.
I am passionate about working with women's health because of the gap in comprehensive care to address pelvic floor symptoms, especially after birth. My goal is to keep spreading this mission of addressing women's health with the tools to stay well, prevent worsening conditions, and heal pelvic health conditions faster with a manageable long-term plan.
Kaela Kajiyama
Pediatric Sleep Consultant
Kaela Kajiyama is the owner of Sustainable Sleep Solutions. As a Pediatric Sleep Consultant, she helps families create lasting change in their daily lives-through sleep and sustainable sleep habits.
While working with families providing postpartum support, it became clear that a huge missing piece of the puzzle was sleep support. Families were exhausted with no real solution towards sustainable sleep. They were unsure what to do and how to navigate their child's sleep. It was clear that the parents needed support and education around sleep. From there, Kaela made the decision to focus more on sleep and dove into education, accreditations and the like to best serve clients and their baby, toddler and child sleep needs.
All families are unique and Kaela believes there is no "one size fits all" approach to sleep. As a Sleep Consultant with a background in psychology and maternal mental health, she works well with families experiencing various mental health conditions on finding the right approach and results for their child's sleep. Clients thrive with support around sleep and families have become better rested, report feeling alive again and have more patience with their children.
